LUCIA MONTES

Choreographer and performer

I was born in Castro Urdiales (1991), but my first two years were spent in Hong Kong, then I went to Chile, and I lived there for 9 years, my childhood, where I already started from the age of 4, more or less, very varied dance classes, movement, gymnastics, folk dances…

I was always dancing and choreographing with my group of friends.

At age 11, we moved again, this time to Morocco, where I lived for 5 years, learned French, and many other dances and experiences. In 2008, at the age of 17, I moved to Madrid, where I began my studies at the Royal Professional Conservatory of Dance Mariemma in the specialty of contemporary dance, graduating in 2012.

I then continued my training at the Superior Dance Conservatory of María de Ávila, graduating in 2016 in Choreography. In those years, I spent long periods in Costa Rica, where I went to the El Barco Conservatory and learned a lot about the dance there.

In 2012 I started working with the Sharon Fridman Company based on the contact technique as an interpreter in the works Hasta Donde, later with Caída Libre-Free Fall and finally in All Ways. Within the company I also gave technical classes, workshops or artistic assistance, and we had numerous performances and international tours until 2018. In 2015, I created my first piece together with Nathalie Remadi, Masawa. And in 2018 I started the independent project of Richard Mascherin, as a performer-creator in Valle de los 90.

Since then, as a freelance dancer I have worked with companies such as La Phármaco, Elías Aguirre, Cia Antonio Ruz, Camille Hanson, LaRumbe Danza, and Fabian Thome's Full Time Company. In parallel, I also do occasional jobs as a performer and actress, an innate passion, training at the Central de Cine and Actores Madrid.

In 2021 I undertake my own project as co-creator and performer with Mado Dallery in the piece IN-SIDE, the first creation in a binomial with premiere in Summer 2021.

I continue to feed on life and dance, learning in courses of various disciplines and arts. Imagining and investigating, creating and interpreting…

The important thing for me when it comes to dancing is listening to the present and being sensitive to it, taking the body beyond mental limits, transforming it from the inside and letting movement emerge. Interpretation is for me to become what you propose, feel it, live it, make it corporeal.
